HUMBERTO FIERRO
Humberto Fierro (Quito, June 17, 1890 - Quito, 1929) 1 was an Ecuadorian poet belonging to the so-called Generation decapitated, composed by several poets of the early twentieth century.
Son of a wealthy family made up of Mr. Enrique Fierro Rosero and Mrs. Amalia Jarrín Zapata. He acquired careful education and in the properties of his parents, in Quito and in Miraflores in Cayambe, as a teenager he devoted a lot of time to reading his favorite authors and poets. In it stood out philosophical and scientific readings and especially of the French symbolist poets and Parnassians. He belonged to the modernist generation and made great friendships with Arturo Borja, Ernesto Noboa, and the group of poets to whom the writer Raúl Andrade described as the "Decapitated Generation". His main works, in which he can clearly appreciate the purity of his language, sometimes simple, others twisted and farfetched, Introverted, modest and simple are gathered in his two poems "The Lute in the Valley" and "The Palatine Evening" , which include, among others, his poems "Tu Cabellera", "Los Niños", "Dojas Hojas", "Romance de Cacería", "A Clori", etc. of extreme sensibility, he served all his life as an amanuensis in an Office of the Public Ministry. Arturo Borja urged him to publish his poems. The lute of the valley, published in 1919, and La Velada palatina, published after his death in 1949. From 1920 he led a bohemian life, but without excess, and at night he met with his friends and poets in different bars of the city of Quito, until death suddenly surprised him on August 23, 1929, when he was barely 39 years old
